The Best Diet for Healthy Hair

If you’re suffering from hair loss, the right diet can make a difference in whether or not you continue to lose locks. The overall quality of your hair correlates significantly with the quality of your diet.

A biotin deficiency results in hair loss, so you want to ensure you’re consuming sufficient quantities if too much loose hair appears in your sink or shower. If you like avocados or guacamole, you’re in luck, because they are chock full of biotin. Other foods containing B vitamins for hair strength include:

  • almonds
  • low fat cheese
  • eggs
  • fish
  • Greek yogurt
  • peanut butter

Plenty of Protein

Your hair consists of protein, and a diet low in protein can soon result in dull, lifeless hair. At least 25 percent of your daily diet should include protein. Good source of protein include:

  • chicken
  • dairy products
  • eggs
  • fish
  • nuts
  • turkey

Iron Deficiency

An iron deficiency can lead to hair loss. You might try eating iron-rich foods such as red meats, pork and ham, beans, clams, oysters and other shellfish. Do not take an iron supplement without your doctor’s recommendation, as excess iron can cause harm.
