Women's Rogaine® is the only medical hair loss treatment that has been approved by the FDA for women. Rogaine for women is an over-the-counter topical solution, much like Men's Rogaine® and Rogaine® Extra Strength just with a smaller percentage of Minoxidil. Rogaine for women is applied directly onto the scalp in the thinning area to slow down the hair loss process. It is not recommended for women to use hair loss drugs like Propecia®, so Rogaine for women works great for many women at the earlier stages of hair loss. Studies have actual shown that Rogaine works better for slowing down hair loss in women than it does for men. It seems to provide the most beneficial results, though, when used as a supplement to hair transplant surgery for women

It is still unknown as to how Rogaine affects pregnancy. Propecia is considered highly harmful for women who are pregnant or may become pregnant. However, there is no conclusive data about the effects of Rogaine for women on pregnancies. It is recommended to consult a physician before taking Rogaine for women if you are pregnant or nursing. Minoxidil in women while generally non-harmful can transfer to breast milk.
