Female Pattern Baldness

How does female pattern baldness occur? Hair loss is most often caused by heredity, hormones and age. Most men can attribute their hair loss to genetics. Many women can as well, but more are likely to cite some other medical condition or outside factor contributing to their thinning hair. Some items that are considered in determining the cause of female pattern baldness include:

  • Stress
  • Medications
  • Pregnancy
  • Hormones
  • Intense Hair Chemicals

Before a surgical plan can be strategized for a woman suffering with hair loss and thinning hair, a pattern must first be determined. Female hair loss patterns vary more than they do for men, mostly because of the different causes that factor in. The chart below shows the Ludwig classification system that was established to better categorize female hair loss.
