ARTAS Hair Restoration System Receives FDA Approval
It looks like the latest innovation in hair restoration just got a little more interesting: it's a robot. But don't write it off as a scam-- it just got approved by the FDA. The ARTAS™ System combines a computer, imaging technology, a robotic arm, and other technologically advanced devices designed to treat hair loss. Specifically, it aids in the follicular unit extraction (FUE) aspect of hair transplants.
“We are thrilled to receive FDA clearance, and look forward to rolling out the ARTAS System to leading hair restoration physicians,” said Jim McCollum, the Chief Executive Officer of Restoration Robotics. “Hair loss is a very real issue for millions of men in the United States. We’re pleased to offer a powerful new technology for patients who are interested in a safe new way to enhance their quality of life.”
But since the ARTAS System is controlled by a computer, it doesn't have quite the color visibility of a human. The ARTAS System can only treat men with black or brown hair. Moreover, it's only approved for men with androgenetic alopecia (male pattern hair loss). So if you're a man that suffers from a less common form of hair loss like telogen effluvium (TE), you're not a good candidate for the Artas System.
According to Restoration Robotics, 35 million men in the U.S. are effected by androgenetic alopecia. Hair is a sign of youth and vitality, so it's natural that those men want to do something about their hair loss. Sixty-eight percent of men feel helpless about their hair loss. If you're one of those men, you don't have to suffer any longer. You can restore your hair and confidence more easily than ever. The ARTAS System uses the same hair restoration techniques that have been trusted for years, but enables the FUE to be more precise than ever. The technological mishaps that sometimes occur during total manual hair transplantation have been virtually eliminated by the ARTAS System.
“Many patients are seeking less invasive alternatives to the current hair restoration techniques,” said Dr. Miguel Canales, the medical director at Restoration Robotics. “There is growing interest in FUE because of its many patient benefits, such as less discomfort and a quicker return to normal activities. The ARTAS™ System solves many of the technical challenges experienced by physicians currently attempting the FUE procedure which gives physicians and patients an exciting new choice.”
